Spain Exhumation:

Exhumation Castuera 2011

This video is a collection of images from the exhumation carried out in Castuera (Extremadura, southwestern Spain) in the summer 2011. The exhumation was promoted and organised by the Association for the Memory of Castuera's Concentration Camp (AMECADEC) and with the aid of the institutional Project for the Recovery of Historical Memory in Extremadura (PREMHEX), its team of archaeologists and volunteers. During the excavation campaign, two mass graves were located and exhumed. Three individuals were found in first mass grave (Fosa 3), dating from the postwar years (1943). The second mass grave (Fosa 1) contained 18 individuals, whose deaths are thought to be related to the once active Concentration Camp, situated 3km away from the village.
